The Renovation of the Maškovića Han (Caravanserai) and Economic Revival of the Town of Vrane Project was co-financed by the EU and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and prepared in collaboration with the Municipality of Pakoštane and the Town of Vrana.
With the enactment of the Act on the Ratification of the Financing Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the European Commission concerning the national programme for Croatia (OG–International Treaties no. 5; 04.08.2010.) and within the framework of the IPA 2009 Programme – Pre-Accession Assistance for Strengthening of Administrative Capacity, the Ministry of Culture has been approved funding for the Renovation of the Maškovića Han and Economic Revival of the Town of Vrane Project. Project approval was preceded by the preparation of documents within the partnership programme of the Ministry of Culture, European Commission and the European Council: Joint Programme on the Integrated Rehabilitation project Plan/ Survey on the Architectural and Archaeological Heritage - IRPP/ SAAH, the making of the preliminary design and forming of the Han Agency as the managing body.
The EU financed 75% of the project worth €2,638,086.10 and the national co-financing amounted to 25% (the Ministry of Culture). Project implementation included four contracts: Contract for the Preparation of Project and Tender Documents, Construction Contract for Renovation, Contract for Renovation Project Supervision and Contract for the Preparation of Marketing Plan of the Han Agency and the Economic Development Plan for Vrana. The project holder is the Ministry of Culture and the end user is the Municipality of Pakoštane.
The works on the renovation of the Maškovića Han caravanserai were completed in 2014. On the completion of renovation, the Han Agency and Municipality of Pakoštane continued implementing the activities listed in the Han Agency’s Marketing Plan and the Economic Development Plan for Vrana. The result of the renovation project is a fully renovated cultural monument now in use as a multipurpose hotel property (four stars) with a restaurant, offices of the Han Agency, tourist info point, and exhibition area and heritage shops with original products. This project created new jobs, improved the local tourism and cultural offer and established preconditions for the economic development of the Town of Vrane and the Municipality of Pakoštane.
